Chiropractic Benefits by Trimester

First Trimester
4 – 13 weeks

first trimester chiropractic benefits

The baby’s nervous system and organs develop and grow. The mother’s body begins producing relaxin and other hormones which allow her body to adapt. It is ideal to start seeing a chiropractor in the first few weeks to prepare your spine and joints for the upcoming changes in pressure.

Second Trimester
13-27 weeks

The mother’s center of gravity changes and the baby’s movements can be felt. Seeing a chiropractor can help you to detect and correct factors that may limit your mobility and cause pain while your body is realigning to accommodate your growing baby.

Third Trimester
28+ weeks

The curve of the mother’s back increases to allow for the growth of baby. Additional weight can cause rounded shoulders, widening of legs, change in gait, and a forward head posture. A misaligned pelvis doesn’t allow for the baby to find it’s most optimal position.

Chiropractic Care for Pregnancy with Webster Technique

Carly is a certified provider for Webster Technique, which is a specialized chiropractic technique for the analysis and gentle adjustment of the sacrum.  It is performed to improve pelvic balance and thus allow the nervous system to function better.  A balanced pelvis reduces tension in the muscles and ligaments, which is especially important for the pregnant woman, but can be used on everyone.

This may optimize baby’s ability to get into the best possible position for birth. Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy can reduce dystocia, otherwise known as a difficult labor. Dystocia is caused from inadequate uterine function, pelvic imbalance, and baby mal-position. By performing adjustments to the spine, it reduces interference to the nerves that go to the uterus and allow it to function better.  This will increase the power and allow the uterus to work more efficiently, thus performing better contractions.  Chiropractic adjustments create balance through treatments of the bone, ligaments, and muscle in the pelvic area.  This reduces the risk of a compromised passage way for the baby through bony abnormalities or position of the pelvis. Through chiropractic adjustments of the mom’s pelvis, it allows the baby to have more space and find their optimal environment.  This is why chiropractic care starting at the beginning of pregnancy can therefore make for a more comfortable pregnancy and labor for mother.
